Google Play phone screenshots must be JPEG or 24-bit PNG, 320 to 3,840 pixels on each side, with the long side at most twice the short side; you need at least 2 to publish and can add up to 8 per device type (as of October 2026). Add your screenshots above, type a caption for each, and download 1080 × 1920 PNGs that meet every rule, in one zip.
What size are Google Play screenshots?
| Rule | Google Play requirement |
|---|---|
| Format | JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no transparency |
| Each side | 320 px minimum, 3,840 px maximum |
| Aspect ratio | Long side no more than twice the short side |
| How many | At least 2 to publish, up to 8 per device type |
| Large-format recommendations | Apps: 4 or more at 1080 px or larger (1080 × 1920 portrait or 1920 × 1080 landscape). Games: 3 or more |
| Taglines | No more than 20% of the image |
| Alt text | Up to 140 characters per screenshot |
All three sizes in this tool pass those rules, and the files are true 24-bit PNGs. A browser canvas normally saves PNGs with an alpha channel, which Google's format rule excludes.
What makes screenshots convert?
Only the first few screenshots are visible before anyone swipes, so order matters. Google allows stylised designs but asks you to show the real interface in the first three screenshots. Lead with the screen that explains the app in one look, then one benefit per screenshot.
- Short captions. Three to six words that say what the screen does for the user: "Plan your week in seconds", not "Calendar screen".
- No claims or calls to action. Google's guidance says to avoid "Download now", "Best", "#1" and price or ranking claims; the tool flags them.
- Clean status bar. No notifications or carrier names; full battery and signal.
- One look. Use the colours of your app icon and feature graphic so the listing feels like one product.
- Frames are optional. Google suggests avoiding device imagery because it dates quickly; the frame here is a plain outline, and Screen only drops it.
How big should the caption text be?
On a phone, a screenshot is shown far smaller than its real size, so small text disappears; Google warns against small fonts and busy backgrounds behind text. This tool starts captions at 7% of the image's shorter side (76 px on a 1080 px wide image), allows two lines and shrinks them only as much as needed. A simple test: if you cannot read the caption on the preview above at phone size, shorten it.
Localising your screenshots
Google recommends translating taglines and overlays for each market; in-game UI does not have to be localised. Make one set per language by changing the captions, and check long languages such as German still fit in two lines.

Frequently asked
What size should Google Play screenshots be?
Each side must be between 320 and 3,840 pixels and the long side can be at most twice the short side, as JPEG or 24-bit PNG without transparency (as of October 2026). 1080 × 1920 (9:16 portrait) or 1920 × 1080 (16:9 landscape) is the safe choice because it also meets the 1080-pixel minimum for Google Play's large-format recommendations.
How many screenshots does Google Play need?
At least 2 to publish a store listing, and up to 8 per device type. To be eligible for Google Play's large-format recommendations, apps need at least four screenshots of 1080 px or more, and games at least three.
Can I put text on my Play Store screenshots?
Yes, short taglines are allowed. Google recommends they take up no more than 20% of the image, use no small text, and avoid calls to action such as Download now and claims such as Best or #1. This tool keeps the caption band within 18% of the image height.
Should my screenshots have a phone frame?
It is your choice. Google's best-practice list suggests avoiding device imagery because it dates quickly, so the frame here is a plain generic outline and you can switch to Screen only. Either way, show real screens from your app: Google wants screenshots to show the actual in-app experience.
Do I need different screenshots for each language?
Google recommends translating taglines and text overlays for each market. Change the captions here, download one set per language and upload each set to that language's store listing in the Play Console.
Are my screenshots uploaded anywhere?
No. Every image is drawn on a canvas in your browser and the zip is built on your device. Nothing you add is sent to a server.
