Terms and conditions, also called terms of use, are the rules for using your app or website: who may use it, what users may post, how purchases and refunds work, and when an account can be closed. Google Play requires a privacy policy from every app but not terms; as of October 2026, though, apps with user-generated content must make users accept terms of use or a user policy before they post. Fill in the form above to get numbered, plain-English terms you can copy or download as HTML or text; nothing you type leaves your browser.

Does an app need terms and conditions?

Not every app must have them, but most apps with accounts or payments should: terms let you remove abusive users, explain subscriptions before anyone pays, limit liability where the law allows and name the law that applies. On Google Play they become mandatory once users can post content: the User Generated Content policy says the app must make users accept its terms of use or user policy before they create or upload anything, and the terms must define objectionable content and behaviour. The same policy asks for in-app reporting and blocking, so keep the generated sentences about them only if your app has both.

Which minimum age should I pick?

13 is the usual line for general apps: in the US, COPPA puts extra duties on services that collect personal data from children under 13. 16 is the GDPR's default age of digital consent in the EU (member states may lower it, but not below 13), so it suits apps that rely on consent from EU users. Choose 18 for dating, adult content or marketplaces where users pay each other. Apps meant for children must also follow Google Play's Families policy.

Subscriptions sold through Google Play

When you tick purchases, choose how they are sold. For Google Play billing the terms repeat what Google's help pages tell buyers as of October 2026: Google Play processes the payment under its refund policies, users cancel in their Google Play subscriptions, uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription, and access lasts for the time already paid. For website sales they point to the refund terms shown at checkout.

Publishing your terms

Put the downloaded HTML on a public page next to your privacy policy and link both from the sign-up screen and the app's settings or about screen. The privacy policy generator writes the matching policy, and the account deletion page generator makes the web page Google Play requires from apps with sign-up. See the privacy policy guide for GDPR and CCPA basics and publishing on Google Play for the rest of the submission. This is a starting template, not legal advice.

Need the app as well?

Describe it and an AI agent builds it: an app with login, sign-up and a dashboard is the most common shape, and the APK builder makes the APK and the signed AAB for Google Play while the app runs in the emulator preview.

Frequently asked

Does my app need terms and conditions on Google Play?

Google Play requires a privacy policy for every app, but not terms for every app. Terms become a requirement when users can post content: as of October 2026, Google Play's User Generated Content policy says users must accept the app's terms of use or user policy before they create or upload content.

Are these terms legal advice?

No. They are a plain-English starting template built from your answers. Check that every sentence is true of your app, and have a lawyer review them if you sell subscriptions, serve children or operate in several countries.

What is the difference between terms and conditions and a privacy policy?

Terms are the rules for using the app: who may use it, what users may post, how payments and cancellations work and what happens when rules are broken. A privacy policy explains what personal data the app collects and how it is used. Most apps with accounts publish both and link them side by side.

Which governing law should I choose?

Usually the country, and the state if relevant, where you or your company are based, written the way courts name it, such as England and Wales or the State of California, United States. Consumers in many countries keep the protection of their local law whatever you choose, and the generated terms say so.

How do subscriptions and refunds work for apps sold on Google Play?

Google Play processes the payment and its refund policies apply. As of October 2026, users cancel in their Google Play subscriptions, uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription, and after cancelling they keep access for the time already paid. The generated terms explain this when you tick purchases.

Where should I put the terms?

On a public web page, linked from the app's sign-up screen and from its settings or about screen, next to the privacy policy. If users post content, show the link where they accept the terms before their first post.

Is anything I type sent to your servers?

No. The terms are assembled in your browser from your answers. Nothing is stored or sent, so copy or download the text before you close the page.
