A Google Play feature graphic must be exactly 1024 × 500 pixels, saved as a JPEG or a 24-bit PNG with no transparency, and every store listing needs one before it can be published (as of October 2026). Type your app's name and tagline above, pick colours and a layout, and download a PNG or JPEG that is ready to upload.
What size is a Play Store feature graphic?
| Asset | Size | Format | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Feature graphic | 1024 × 500 px | JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha | Required to publish |
| App icon | 512 × 512 px | 32-bit PNG | Up to 1024 KB |
| Phone screenshots | 320–3,840 px per side | JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha | At least 2 to publish, up to 8 per device type |
| Alt text | 140 characters | Text | One per graphic, for screen readers |
Google's help page gives no file-size limit for the feature graphic; the Play Developer API accepts store images up to 15 MB, and files from this tool are usually well under 1 MB. A PNG saved from a browser canvas normally keeps an alpha channel even when nothing in it is transparent, so this maker writes a true 24-bit PNG (RGB, no alpha): the exact format Google lists.
Where does Google Play show it?
The feature graphic is the cover of your preview video, if you add one, with a play button over it when the video does not autoplay. It also appears in large-format collections of apps, including ads, and in groups of recommended games. Because the layout changes from place to place, Google marks the edges as cutoff zones that may be cropped or covered, and asks you to keep the focal point near the centre. Switch on "Show cutoff zones" above to see them: about 15% of each edge, measured from Google's own diagram, since Google publishes no pixel values.
What makes a feature graphic work?
- One message. Show what the app does in a few words: "Drink enough water, one tap at a time" says more than a logo.
- Big, high-contrast text. On a phone the graphic is shown far smaller than 1024 pixels, so this tool never sets the name below 32 px and warns when contrast is low.
- Vivid colour. Google advises against pure white, black or dark grey backgrounds, which blend into the store. Match the colours of your app icon and app instead of repeating the icon in large size.
- No claims or badges. Avoid "Best", "#1", "Free" or "Sale", store badges, device imagery and offers that expire.
- Localise it. If your listing has translations, make one graphic per language and upload it to that language.
Finish the rest of your listing
Make the 512 px icon with the app icon generator, frame your screenshots with the screenshot mockup maker, and check the title and descriptions with the Play Store listing checker. The Google Play publishing guide walks through the account, testing and review, and signed APK and AAB for the Play Store covers the build you upload. For naming and icon choices, read app icon and name for your APK.

Frequently asked
What size is the Google Play feature graphic?
1024 × 500 pixels, as a JPEG or a 24-bit PNG without transparency (as of October 2026). Every file this tool downloads is exactly 1024 × 500, and the PNG is saved without an alpha channel.
Is a feature graphic required on Google Play?
Yes. Google Play needs a feature graphic before you can publish a store listing. It is used as the cover of your preview video, if you add one, and in large-format collections of apps, including ads.
What are the cutoff zones of a feature graphic?
Google's guidance marks the four edges of the feature graphic as cutoff zones: depending on the format they may be cropped or covered. Keep the app name, slogan, logo and main UI near the centre. The safe-zone switch in this tool shades those edges, about 15% on each side, as measured from Google's example diagram.
Is there a file size limit for the feature graphic?
Google's help page lists only the format and the 1024 × 500 size. The Google Play Developer API accepts store images up to 15 MB. Graphics from this tool are usually well under 1 MB, so the size is not a concern.
Can I write Free, #1 or Sale on my feature graphic?
Google Play advises against it. Avoid words like Best, #1, Top, New, Free, Discount, Sale or Million Downloads, as well as store badges, device imagery and offers that expire. This tool warns you when your text contains such words.
Should I download PNG or JPEG?
Both are accepted. PNG keeps text and flat colours perfectly sharp; JPEG is smaller and fine for photo-heavy designs. Neither download has transparency, which Google does not allow for the feature graphic.
Are my icon and screenshot uploaded?
No. Images you add are drawn on a canvas inside your browser and never leave your device. The finished graphic is also created on your device.
